Environment Canada has issued weather advisories for much of southern Ontario, warning that conditions are favourable for funnel clouds, which could produce a “weak landspout tornado.”

“These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms,” state the advisories, which were issued Monday at 4:45 p.m.

Environment Canada says that landspout tornadoes “do not usually cause significant damage but can still be dangerous.”

“They can be strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs or toss debris short distances,” according to the federal weather agency’s statements.
