Dozens of people dressed as superheroes rappelled down a 29-storey hotel in Edmonton on Thursday as part of a fundraising effort. It was a scary feat for the participants -- but for one spectator waiting at the bottom with an engagement ring, the scariest part was the arrival of his soon-to-be fiancée.

Amanda Shairp was one of 70 people who participated in the Alberta Easter Seals Drop Zone event at the Sutton Place Hotel. Participants were required to raise a minimum of $1,500 in pledges and attend a training session at an indoor rock climbing gym.

"It's a once in a lifetime (experience)," said Shairp on the roof of the hotel prior to taking the leap of faith. "I've wanted to do it for years and here I am."

Wearing a bright yellow costume and a GoPro camera strapped to her helmet, Shairp slowly descended down the side of the hotel. The view from her camera showed the streets of downtown Edmonton from high above the ground.

Shairp said she was a little nervous prior to her descent, but said her boyfriend, who was waiting at the bottom, was likely feeling "worse."

And he was.

"I'm more nervous than she is," said Kadin Puttick as he waited for his girlfriend to join him.

The Edmonton man was also taking a leap of faith, but a different kind. He was about to pop the big question.

"She just possibly couldn’t have seen this coming," Puttick said. "I liked the idea of her glancing down and seeing me down there … She's the one. She's the person I want to spend the rest of my life with and I’m going to."

The moment was shared by a crowd of curious onlookers.

"When I'm away from you for too long, I feel like I’m broken," said Puttick holding his soon-to-be fiancee's engagement ring.

The happy couple then shared a kiss.

"He’s the love of my life," said Shairp after saying yes. "I'm never going to forget this day."
