Police in B.C. are investigating a grisly crime scene after human remains were found by the side of the road in Langley.

Authorities said the dismembered body of a man was discovered along a road in Strawberry Hill, a quiet rural neighbourhood in Langley Township, around 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police told reporters they can’t identify the man, and that they may still be looking for more of his remains.

“This, no doubt, is a gruesome event that took place,” Cpl. Meghan Foster, of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said at a news conference Wednesday.

Investigators believe the killing was targeted, and that it is linked to gang activity.

However, police don’t believe the roadside is where the man was killed. They think the body was transported there overnight. They are hoping any potential witnesses come forward.

Ken Reid, who says he was delivering newspapers in the area around 3 a.m., came forward to speak with authorities at the scene later Wednesday.

He told police he saw the driver of a white Mercedes SUV behaving strangely on the street where the body was later discovered.

He thought the driving looked suspicious, “Like they’re looking for a dump site, and I kind of ruined it for them because I was there,” Reid told CTV Vancouver.

Though it’s early in the investigation, police say they have no evidence that suggests the overnight killing is an act of retaliation for other gang slayings.

Bob Green, a high-profile member of the notorious biker gang Hells Angels, was shot to death in Langley earlier this month. A member of the rival gang 856 was arrested after Green’s killing and he remains in custody.
