A Sarnia, Ont. man is no longer facing charges in connection with a cat found shot in the head by a pellet gun.
Animal cruelty charges against Christopher Hammond were withdrawn at a Sarnia courthouse on Monday.
Hammond had been facing charges of causing damage or injury to an animal and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, as well as drug possession charges.
Hammond had been charged, along with another man, after a cat named ‘Joe’ was found badly injured at the side of the road in Sarnia, in February of 2014.
The animal, which became known as "Joe the cat," had been shot 17 times in the head.
The cat underwent surgery and survived, though it lost one of its eyes.
At the time, the Sarnia and District Human Society said Joe was "severely dehydrated and malnourished."
Charges against the second individual in the case were withdrawn at an earlier date.
