An Abbotsford, B.C. family got a pre-Halloween fright after a man broke into their apartment by jumping through a bedroom window.

The ordeal started just after 8 a.m. on Sunday, with a family relaxing in their living room and eating breakfast.

Police say a man broke into the first floor apartment through the bedroom, sending the family running.

"He has no connection to this place, he just jumped through the window," said Staff Sgt. Rick Stewart, with Abbotsford Police. "This is extremely unusual."

Stewart said police found the man covered in blood and in the process of taking off his clothes in the apartment unit's bathroom.

Neighbours say they were woken up to the sounds of glass breaking.

"I was laying in bed and heard glass breaking. I thought someone was out here smashing windshields or something like that, and I look out the window and I can just see someone swinging their arm," neighbour Ryan Martin told CTV Vancouver. "Then I saw the family run out."

The man in question was taken to hospital. Police believe the incident was drug-induced.
