Eligible Canadians began receiving their second payment on Monday under the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit. Previously known as the GST/HST credit, the quarterly payments for lower-income Canadians can range from a few hundred dollars to nearly two thousand dollars annually, depending on income, marital status and the number of children in a household. A single individual without children, for example, can receive up to $679 a year while those with four or more children can receive up to $1,826. Meant to help offset the rising cost of living, the payment comes as the annual inflation rate stood at three per cent in August. Have you received a Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payment? Is it helping you or your family make ends meet? How will you use it ahead of Thanksgiving? Do the payments help with the rising cost of groceries and other essentials?
