The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has published a recall for a brand of dairy-free frozen desserts due to “plastic-like” and “gravel-like fragments.” The notice from Sept. 22 affects 500-ml products of So Delicious Dairy Free salted caramel with a cashew base. The products have a best-before date of Sept. 8 2027, Oct. 15 and 16 in 2027, Feb. 3 and 25 in 2028, and March 30 and 31 in 2028. Consumers are advised to not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product. Caitlin Gray, external communications adviser for Sobeys, confirmed on Thursday that the recalled products have been removed from all banner stores in all regions. The banner stores include FreshCo, Safeway, IGA and Foodland. The products have also been removed from Voilà by Sobeys, an online grocery delivery service owned by Sobeys’ parent company, Empire Company Ltd. Danone Inc., the company that produces the products, issued its own recall notice in the U.S. on Sept. 15. The notice affects all pints with best-by dates on and before April 3, 2028, due to the presence of “foreign materials,” such as small stones and other hard objects within the cashew inclusions. The U.S. notice stated that the issue had been identified via consumer complaints and that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been informed of the recall. It added that unaffected product is still on shelves in retail stores and product shipped going forward is not affected by the recall. A similar food recall notice was posted by the CFIA on Jan. 2, 2026, which applied to all pints with best-before dates from Feb. 13 of this year to July 10, 2027.
