Man arrested after plaques stolen from provincial cenotaph in Fredericton

FREDERICTON - Police in Fredericton say a man turned himself in after plaques were stolen from the provincial cenotaph in the city.

In a news release, police say they expect charges to be laid.

It was recently discovered that three brass plaques containing the names of First, Second and Korean War veterans were missing from the cenotaph.

Authorities say some of the plaques surfaced at a metal recycling business, but the names were ground off.

The public donated about $4,000 to be used for upkeep of the cenotaph and to install a security system.
