Former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and American singer Katy Perry have been making headlines for their rumoured romance for months now. The American singer went Instagram official with beau, Trudeau, sharing romantic photos and videos from their trip to Japan on Saturday morning. Earlier this week, Trudeau and Perry were seen posing with former Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife on Thursday. In the photograph posted by Kishida, Trudeau is seen standing in front of a Christmas tree with his arm around the singer. Kishida referred to Perry as Trudeau’s “partner,” confirming the long-rumoured romance that had Canadians glued to their social media. “Former Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau visited Japan with his partner and joined my wife and me for lunch,” Kishida said in the caption of the photo, according to the translation by X. “During his time as prime minister, we met multiple times as fellow leaders, and when I visited Canada, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including formulating the ‘Japan-Canada Action Plan,’ sweating it out side by side.” Trudeau reshared the post, thanking Kishida for his “friendship and continued commitment” to a better future. “Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko,” he wrote. Trudeau and Perry were first spotted together in a Montreal restaurant in late July, where they were seen dining together in the city’s Plateau neighbourhood. The restaurant — Le Violon, confirmed that the two had shared a meal and “couldn’t have been kinder,” in a statement provided to CJAD 800 Radio. First reported by TMZ, photographs from the rumoured date were splashed across the internet, creating a buzz. Meanwhile, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau had some things to say about this rumoured relationship on the Arlene is Alone podcast in November. “We have separate lives, but we have one family life,” Grégoire Trudeau told Canadian author and TV personality, Arlene Dickinson. “We’re human beings and stuff affects us. ... How you react to stuff is your decision.” The couple separated in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage and are co-parenting their three children: Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien. “I’m definitely not a single mom,” Grégoire Trudeau said. Perry announced her split from fiancé Orlando Bloom after almost a decade last June, People reported. The former Canadian leader announced his resignation as the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and prime minister last January, after heading the party for nearly 12 years because he “cannot be the one to carry the Liberal standard into the next election.” The former Japanese leader had served as the 100th and 101st prime minister of Japan, from October 2021 until October 2022.
