More than 37,000 electric snow throwers sold at Home Hardware are being recalled due to an “electric shock hazard.” “The power cable on the affected units may break when exposed to extreme cold weather, causing a potential electric shock injury,” according to an advisory published by Health Canada on Monday. The recall is for the Benchmark-branded 22-inch, 15 amp electric snow thrower, with model number YF6022 on the back of the base. It has the word “BENCHMARK” written on the side, and red and black base and wheels and a black handle. “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Home Hardware for instructions on how to destroy the product in exchange for a refund,” according to the notice. As of Oct. 5, 2026, Ontario-based Home Hardware has received 19 reports of broken power cords in Canada but no reported injuries, according to the recall notice. The company reported that 37,667 affected electric snow throwers were sold in Canada, between November 2020 and May 2026. Suzhou Murray Electronics & Machinery Co., Ltd., is the manufacturer, and the supplier is Sumec Hardware & Tools. Both are based in Jiangsu, China. Customers seeking more information are advised to call Home Hardware Stores Limited at 1-877-940-5081, email contactus@homehardware.ca, or visit the company website. Consumers are encouraged to report health or safety incidents by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form. “Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada,” according to the advisory.
