Head found in Montreal park belongs to Jun Lin: police

A human head found in a Montreal park on the weekend belongs to dismemberment victim Jun Lin, police have confirmed.

The head, initially described by police only as possible human remains, was found on the edge of a pond in Angrignon Park in the city’s south end on Sunday.

Investigators then sent the remains to a lab for DNA testing.

Police said they made the discovery after receiving a tip, but wouldn’t elaborate. Angrignon Park is about a 10 to 15-minute drive from the apartment building where police believe Lin was killed.

A police spokeswoman said Wednesday that few details will be released about the latest development in the case because police don’t want to jeopardize the investigation.

Lin, a 33-year-old Concordia University student from China, was murdered and dismembered in May.

His torso was discovered in a suitcase behind a Montreal apartment building. Some of his body parts were mailed to political offices in Ottawa and two schools in the Vancouver area.

As police gathered Lin’s remains, they said that only his head was still missing. Investigators said they were determined to find it in order to give some closure to Lin’s family, who travelled to Montreal from China to collect their son’s remains.

Lin’s family has been notified of the latest discovery, police said.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, a porn actor and model, has been charged with Lin’s murder. He was arrested in Germany after an international manhunt and extradited back to Canada last month.

Magnotta has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him, including first-degree murder. His preliminary court hearing has been scheduled for March 2013.

Kankan Huang, who employed Lin at a Montreal convenience store, told CTV Montreal Wednesday he was relieved to learn that Lin’s family can now bury his body in its entirety, which is very important in Chinese culture.

“It’s…the end of the tragedy,” Huang said.
