Aboriginal people are a fast growing population in Canada. While Census data conducted in 2011 won't be available for several months, 2006 data shows a total of 1,172,785 people identified themselves as Aboriginal.  Out of that population:

  • 698,025 said they were North American Indian
  • 389,780 said they were Metis; and
  • 50,480 said they were Inuit

Below is a province by province breakdown of Canadians who identify themselves as Aboriginal, based on latest available data by Statistics Canada.
