Six horses that are believed to have been stolen from a ranch southwest of Edmonton have been found and returned to their rightful owners.

The horses were taken sometime in the night on Dec. 6, according to RCMP. They were in a locked pen on the family’s property, called Thunder Valley Ranches, near Winfield, Alta. area when they disappeared. Truck and trailer tracks were discovered at the scene, which police believe the intruders used to take the horses.

The family offered a $2,500 reward for information that would help them find the horses.

Earlier this week, the horses were found grazing on grass in an area between Rocky Mountain House and Buck Lake. The family said in a Facebook post they believe the thieves were spooked by the intense media attention surrounding the story and abandoned the horses near the side of a road.

The six horses, some of which have been in the family for 10 years, were safely returned to their owners.
