MONTREAL - The founder of Montreal's Saint Joseph's Oratory is one step closer to sainthood.
On Saturday, Pope Benedict acknowledged a miraculous healing attributed to Brother Andre.
Last February, the Vatican's medical commission deemed the incident scientifically unexplainable.
Brother Andre was born in Saint-Hyacinthe, Que. in 1845. He died in Montreal in 1937.
The path towards sainthood has been slow -- Brother Andre was declared venerable in 1978 and beatified in 1982 by Pope John Paul II.
A news release Saturday from the Oratory said details of the final stages of the canonization process would be published in the new year.
