Lethbridge asking residents for feedback to help revise land-use bylaw

The City of Lethbridge is looking for public feedback on its land use bylaw.

The City of Lethbridge is asking for residents’ feedback to help craft and create a new land-use bylaw.

The existing bylaw has been in place since 1986 and the city says amenities and businesses have evolved, making the current one outdated.

As part of Phase Two of the Land Use Bylaw Renewal Project, the city has launched a survey for residents to provide their feedback on a range of topics, including housing, neighbourhood commercial, downtown and parking.

The multi-year project will gather feedback from residents to draft a new bylaw for future use in the city when it comes to planning and approving projects.

“Affordability is a big issue for a lot of people today,” said city senior community planner Ross Kilgour. “And the land use bylaw has a big impact on that in terms of making it easier or harder to build new homes in our city.

“It affects our economy as well,” he added, “in terms of just making it easier to attract new investment and provide new jobs in the city, so there’s a lot of things like that that.

“A lot of people might not have heard of land-use bylaw,” Kilgour said, “but it does have a big impact on your life.”

The survey can be filled out on the city’s website until Feb. 18.
