‘Your story is important’: Anonymous health-care feedback tool launches in Alberta

An online platform is now available for Albertans to anonymously share health-care experiences. It made the difference for one Calgary woman.

Imagine Citizens Network (ICN) has launched Care Opinion Canada, an online platform for Albertans to anonymously share their health-care experiences.

ICN is an independent, Alberta-based organization working to transform health care.

“For patients, this can lead to a sense of empowerment, knowing that their concerns are heard and can lead to needed improvements in care. It can also help health-care providers better understand the needs and expectations of the people they serve, ultimately leading to more patient-centred care,” patient Kimberley Sidhu said in a news release.

Last year, Sidhu gave birth to her second daughter and nearly lost her life after contracting sepsis and invasive group-A strep.

She went through a major emergency surgery at Calgary’s Rockyview General Hospital and wanted to thank those who made her feel comfortable during care and recovery.

“I was unsure if my story would make any difference or even reach anyone who had me as a patient, but once I found that confidence and courage, I realized that I could not only heal myself but contribute to something bigger,” Sidhu said.

Once Albertans share their story, it’s edited by a moderator to ensure no personal identifying information is released.

In Calgary, Bethany Seniors Care Centre, Calgary Foothills Primary Care Network and Circle Medical have all signed up to receive the feedback.

The organizations can update Care Opinion Canada with how they’ve implemented the feedback so patients can see the result.

“Your story is important, and it has the potential to make a real difference,” Sidhu said.
