A woman is in hospital in life-threatening condition after being hit by a vehicle in downtown Calgary. Police were called to Fifth Avenue and Centre Street S.W. at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday. Officials say a man in his 40s, driving a 2015 Toyota Prius V, was eastbound on Fifth Avenue when he ran over a woman lying in the road, east of the intersection. The man immediately pulled over. The victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition while the driver was not hurt. “The identity of the pedestrian and the reason for her being in the road are still being investigated,” police said. “Speed, alcohol, and drugs are not believed to be factors on the part of the Toyota’s driver.” The road was closed for about four hours following the crash.
