An event at Tsuut’ina helped students get ready to start their school year. Tsuut’ina Nation is holding a back-to-school community event to help students get the school supplies they need. The festival-style event features entertainment and a barbeque. But the main event is the free supplies for Nation students and families. Everything from backpacks to water bottles, pens, pencils paper and even clothing is provided. But organizers say the event provides more than just supplies. “I think it’s big – not just for our community but all communities,” said Tsuut’ina Xakujagha (Minor Chief) Zach Manywounds. “Not just Tsuut’ina, but communities across Canada that can really use this kind of effort from corporations wanting to help out.” “You can see the turnout,” Manywounds added. “And I don’t think it’s just here in Tsuut’ina. I think you can look at the scale across Canada – many communities, when they put their hands together, they can do good things like this and rally up for the kids.” This is the first year for the event, but organizers are hoping to make it an annual one.
