The trial of a Sundre woman accused of sexually assaulting a minor under 16 and sexually interfering began Monday in Calgary, in a packed courtroom. Alexa Suitor has pleaded not guilty to both charges. The trial is being heard by a judge and 12 jurors. The Crown presented its case to the jury, alleging Suitor engaged in sexual activity with the complainant in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, 2024, when he was only 15 years old. The Crown called its first witness, who cannot be identified, and was at the party that night. The alleged incident occurred in a home at a rural property northwest of Sundre. The witness testified she saw Alexa and the complainant having sex on a cot in the living room. “I witnessed the complainant and Alexa having sex,” she told court. During cross-examination by defence lawyer Patrick Fagan, she said she saw the complainant and Suitor under the blankets but admitted she did not physically see the pair having sex. “I couldn’t see what he was doing under the blankets,” she said. The witness later described seeing clothes on the floor, near the cot. Crown prosecutor James Molloy says he plans to call two witnesses on Tuesday, including the complainant.
