A transgender organization is behind a community blood drive in Calgary. Non-profit ‘Queen of Canada’ led a donation drive at the donor clinic with members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. One of the pageant winners says campaigns like this are important to encourage the LGBTQ2S+ community to donate blood. “From where I’m standing, as a transgender person and as a nurse, donating blood in itself is about being in a community,” said Eyre/Queen of Canada Universe 2023. “It’s about saving lives, so that’s why we’re here, and that’s why we are here to donate blood.” New screening regulations in 2022 allowed more members of the LGBTQ2S+ community to donate blood.
