Two Canmore residents are facing charges after allegedly trafficking drugs between Calgary and Canmore. Cochrane RCMP allege the target of their investigation was picking up “wholesale-level drugs” in Calgary, then driving to the Bow Valley to sell them. On March 13, officers stopped a vehicle as part the investigation, seizing 1,097 grams of fentanyl. The following day, officers executed a search warrant in Canmore, seizing 1.6 kilograms of fentanyl and cocaine, as well as 2,000 tablets of counterfeit Xanax – which RCMP say is commonly composed of synthetic opioids stronger than Fentanyl. Two Canmore residents, ages 30 and 31, were arrested and charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Both will be appearing in court in Cochrane on June 16. Continued investigation leads to Calgary bust RCMP say the search in Canmore provided “additional evidence” that prompted them to launch a second investigation in Calgary. RCMP say two homes “related to drug trafficking” were identified in District 7. Those homes were searched on May 27, at which time police seized a half-kilogram of cocaine and fentanyl, more than 1,100 synthetic opioid tablets and a prohibited firearm. Two people were arrested. The accused, a 30-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, are facing six drugs and weapons-related charges.
