The inspiration for The X-Files creator Chris Carter’s new film came from a source that unwittingly had been close to him for some time—a script his wife, Dori, wrote 30 years ago. “I was in the garage rummaging around, I found it in a box, I read it and I said, ‘You should approach this in a new way with Jeanine Pirro,’” Carter told CTV News. “Judge Jeanine,” the former Fox News host, is now the template for a conservative modern-day woman who is sent back in time to an era that typified more traditional values—the 1950s. That’s the premise behind Queens for a Day, which premieres Sunday as part of the Calgary International Film Festival. Carter shot several seasons of The X-Files in Vancouver and returned there to shoot the film. Vancouver actor Erin Boyes plays “Judge Jerri.” “It was so fun. Creating a character like that is incredible, and I pulled from a lot of different characters,” Boyes said.
