A northeast Calgary high school was placed on lockdown Thursday after one youth allegedly assaulted another with a weapon. Police say they were called to Lester B. Pearson High School shortly after 12 p.m. “It is believed one student assaulted another student with a weapon,” police said shortly after. According to police, the victim’s injuries were minor, and transportation to hospital was not necessary. Officers took one person into custody. Both the victim and the suspect are youths, police say. The school was placed on lockdown for a time. Just after 2 p.m., police provided an update saying the lockdown had been lifted. Lester B. Pearson High School is located in the 3000 block of 52 Street N.E. in the community of Pineridge. The Calgary Board of Education provided CTV News with the message it shared with the school community on Thursday afternoon: “Around 12:20 p.m., the school was placed into lockdown due to an incident where an individual was threatening two students. Calgary Police Service was contacted for assistance. All students were kept in classrooms while the situation was resolved after about 10 minutes. We are now working with those directly involved in the incident and their families,” the message read. “I want to reassure you that all students are safe. There were limited students in the building due to today’s biology exam. “All potential threats are taken seriously and fully investigated. Each situation that arises requires an appropriate level of response to ensure the safety and security of students and staff. Should there be evidence that would require the school to initiate other critical incident protocols or procedures, we would act quickly to enact those processes.”
