Canada’s largest model train show returned to Calgary Saturday. Supertrain took over the Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary campus, with over 120 different exhibitions from Calgary, across Canada and around the world. Some of the main features include Iron Horse Park’s popular ride-on trains, CPCK’s Little General mini-train and lots of Lego models. For Supertrain 2026 chairman and publicity director Rob Badmington, there’s no big mystery as to the enduring appeal of trains. “I think everybody likes trains, whether they know it or not,” Badmington said. “They like to ride trains as kids, if they get the opportunity. “And it’s such a variety of different ways to enjoy the train hobby.” Badmington said thousands attend the event. “We’re expecting about 12,000 people to come and see trains of all sizes, from HO-scale, miniatures, N-Scale, Z-Scale, all the way up to full-size trains represented by things like Calgary Transit, the Green Line, and all the historical parks and museums in Canada. “Everybody’s fascinated by small things that move,” Badmington added.
