Stampeders rookies put young fans through their paces at Junior Stamps Camp

300 young football fans were at McMahon Stadium Saturday brushing up on their skills and learning about the game from the Stampeders.

McMahon Stadium was a busy place Saturday as football fans got the opportunity to meet the newest members of the Calgary Stampeders.

It was the CFL club’s annual Junior Stamps Camp, giving young fans a chance to brush up on their football skills and learn about the game from Stamps rookies.

Three hundred youngsters were put through the paces, including jumping, throwing, catching and learning to tackle.

“I think it really gives kids the first opportunity to give football a shot,” said Stampeders’ director of football operations Nick Bojda. “And there’s so many times that our football players are so nice in the community.

“They’re so wanting to be connected to the children, wanting to be connected to everybody in the city,” Bojda added. “So this is a great opportunity for kids to see that, see their personalities up front and try football for the first time.”

The kids also had the chance to work out with the Calgary Outriders.

“I just kind of imagine myself in their shoes,” said Corey Coley Jr., a Stampeder rookie. “And I know that when I was younger, I would have liked the opportunity to work with the professional guys.

“I’m from Jacksonville,” Coley added, “so if I could have worked with the Jacksonville Jaguars at their age, it’s something I would have loved to experience.”
