Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a special weather statement for Canmore and Calgary early Sunday morning. ECCC posted the statement at 4:34 a.m. “Poor travel conditions expected today through Monday morning. Bands of heavy snow will continue to move through the area today,” it said. “Locations impacted will likely include the Highway 1 and Highway 2 corridors near Calgary and areas to the west.” “Snowfall accumulations will be quite variable, with the highest amounts reaching 15 to 25 centimetres (cm). Expect periods of poor visibility and rapidly accumulating snow. “The snowfall will become more widespread Sunday night, bringing an additional five to 10 cm to the Foothills and much of central Alberta by Monday afternoon. Allow extra time for travel.”
