Relief pours into Siksika Nation

The public responded to a call for supplies and filled the collection facility.

Members of the Siksika First Nation have also been hit hard by flooding and many were left without even the basics after they were forced out of their homes.

In the last 24 hours, that has changed quite a bit as word got out that they were in need of supplies and volunteer power.

Since Sunday night truck after truck of clothes, children’s toys and water started arriving at the Siksika evacuation centre.

Scores of volunteers from all across southern Alberta are also showing up to help sort and distribute the aide.

“It was something else to see I think people are victims themselves. Because they are staying here and because they are sleeping here they are seeing this, and it's taking their breath away and they are very grateful and it's helping with some of the hurt that they've lost everything,” said Toni Good Eagle.

Siksika aid workers say despite the overnight outpouring of donations, there is still a great need for things like water, diapers, and men’s and women’s clothing.

An Emergency Evacuation order is still in effect for the area and right now people are still not being allowed back into the residences.
