The Calgary Police Service homicide unit is investigating a suspicious death in the city’s southeast, which has led to the closure of an area school. At 12:30 a.m., police blocked off the scene at 76 Avenue SE and 20A Street S.E. after a man was found dead. Officers could be seen taking photos of a car parked on the sidewalk of 20A Street S.E. Evidence markers were also seen near the centre of the road. Investigators are also working further down the street on 76 Avenue S.E., where the man’s body was located. Police add the Ogden Elementary School, located at 1919 76 Ave. S.E., will be closed for the day due to the investigation. Officials said the school is closed due its proximity to the scene and administrators would be informing parents of the change. Three people arrested In an update at 7 a.m., police said one person was arrested after an abandoned vehicle, believed to be connected to the shooting, was found a short time later. A suspicious persons call from a resident in Palliser brought police to that community, where two more people were arrested. No charges have been formally laid. Police also confirm officers are present on Tsuut’ina Trail near 90 Avenue S.W., and in a nearby shopping centre. CPS says that the activity is connected to the death investigation, though no additional information has been provided. Traffic in the area is expected to be affected well into the morning as investigators process the scene. Police said the victim was targeted, but a specific motive is yet to be determined.
