Calgary police say drivers are still putting the pedal to metal on the city’s ring road. In just three hours on Saturday, police issued more than 40 summonses and 10 warnings to drivers on Stoney Trail near Bow Trail S.W. A driver caught travelling at 147 km/h was also stopped and ticketed, police say. Stoney Trail has been a persistent problem for police over the last few months, where more than 200 summonses have been issued to drivers since January. Police say speeding is a big risk to the drivers who are behind the wheel and others who are on the road with them. “Driving too fast cuts down reaction time and increases the force of impact, putting everyone on the road in danger,” police said in a social media post. “We’re urging Calgarians to slow down, stay patient & help ensure that everyone gets where they’re going safely.” Calgary police say April is speed month, during which police are urging drivers to understand the serious risk of speeding on the road.
