The province says it’s temporarily removing parental income used to determine student aid amounts. This summer, the province started using family income to calculate student aid. Students and parents pushed back, saying these changes would hinder access to post-secondary education. The province is now changing course and removing parental income from student aid assessments. It says the move is an affordability measure and will only apply to the 2026-27 academic year. Around 21,000 applications will be reassessed. Student aid will notify those who qualify for additional loan funding.
