Opa! Calgary’s zoo teams up with Greek food chain for summer camp sponsorship

A Calgary food chain will help local kids learn about animals and ecology this summer.

Officials with the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo announced on Tuesday that Opa! of Greece will be the organization’s presenting sponsor for summer camps this year and next.

This year, the zoo’s summer camps run from June 29 to Aug. 14.

There are half-day and full-day camps for children ages four to 14.

The camps include immersive, hands-on experiences that connect children with wildlife and introduce key conservation concepts through interactive activities.

“These programs play an important role in helping children engage directly with wildlife and conservation,” said Maureen Souply, director of learning and engagement at the zoo, in a news release. “This partnership allows us to expand access to experiences and foster a sense of stewardship and empathy at a formative age.”

Opa! started with a single location in the food court at Market Mall back in 1998.

Now, the chain has expanded to 122 locations and is the largest Greek fast-food restaurant in Canada.

“We are proud to support the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and invest in programs that create lasting educational experiences for youth,” said Simran Singh, Opa! of Greece president and CEO.
