The City of Calgary has announced details of nine new office-to-residential conversions in the downtown core. Funding for the conversions was announced earlier this year – along with a conversion at 606 Fourth Street S.W. The nine new conversion projects include: In total, the projects will see 974,000-square-feet of space converted in 972 new residences. “Just a few short years ago, downtown Calgary was in a tough spot. Today we are on the path for a strong recovery, spurred on by new investment, innovation and a sense of optimism and collaboration,” said Mayor Jeromy Farkas. “Downtown is welcoming Calgarians to live in the heart of the city with thousands of new homes coming to the market.” Calgary now has six completed downtown office conversions that brought 226 new hotel rooms and 490 new homes into the heart of the city, including 170 below-market and affordable units. the Downtown Calgary Development Incentive is responsible for a total of 21 office conversions that will transform more than 2.68 million-square-feet of office space, into 2,655 new homes.
