A new hotel being built in Calgary’s East Village will have 131 rooms, a bar and an outdoor thermal spa. The Moxy Calgary East Village, from Truman and Marriott International, is being constructed on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Confluence Way S.E., overlooking the Bow River and St. Patrick’s Island. Officials say both guests and community members will have access to the five-storey hotel’s bar and spa. “Our Moxy Hotels are all about showing guests a good time with small but smart rooms and stylish communal spaces, which makes it a perfect fit for the vibrancy of East Village,” said Tim Reardon, regional vice president of Western Canada for Marriott International. Construction on the Moxy Calgary East Village began in mid-September and is expected to be finished in 2028. “Our vision is to contribute to Calgary’s arrival as a world-class destination by creating developments that support economic activity, attract visitors, define Calgary’s skyline and enhance the vibrancy of the communities where we build,” said Tony Trutina, Tuman’s chief operating officer. Kate Thompson, Calgary Municipal Land Corporation president and CEO, says the Moxy Calgary East Village is the third development project to break ground in East Village this year. “We’re thrilled to see the development industry’s continued confidence in our vision for the neighbourhood,” she said.
