Netflix sings the praises of Alberta landscapes and crews on social media

The Netflix series My Life With the Walter Boys is currently in production on Season 3 being shot in and around Calgary, Alberta. Season 2 is now airing.

Alberta film and TV crews received a shout-out from Netflix Canada Monday.

The streaming behemoth posted praise on social media and its website.

“Alberta has captivated global audiences by serving as the backdrop for a number of Netflix productions. Series filmed in this province highlight Alberta’s natural beauty, diverse landscapes and exceptional local talent,” it said, citing projects such as My Life With the Walter Boys, Black Summer, Our Living World and the upcoming Abandons.

It said that My Life With the Walter Boys has become a global hit, with 254 million viewing hours from 33 million viewers around the world. It spent eight weeks in the Global Top 10 and made 88 different Top 10 lists around the world.

The series has been renewed for two more seasons, and is currently in production on Season 3, with Season 2 now on air.

“These productions showcase Alberta’s vast range of landscapes and communities, with filming locations spanning from Calgary, Crossfield and Cochrane to Kananaskis Country,” it said. “Fans can discover all these Alberta filming locations on Netflix in Your Neighbourhood."

Netflix also sponsors Diversity in Voices, a Banff program that offers professional development and career acceleration for underrepresented Canadian voices.

President of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) local 212 Damian Petti said the investment in outreach “speaks volumes” to Netflix’s desire to build on southern Alberta talent.

“They realize that Alberta presents beautiful landscapes, world-class production facilities and award-winning crews,” Petti told CTV News Calgary.

It also has hosted receptions at the last two Calgary Stampedes, which included bringing the cast of My Life With the Walter Boys to the 2025 Stampede rodeo.

The Netflix Canada marketing team have even coined a new trending term that might help explain the worldwide popularity of the show: “Western Core.”
