Almost 100 Calgarians participated in seniors sports day at the Genesis Centre on Saturday. Organizers say when they’re placing participants into the activities, they work to ensure the seniors are not at a competitive disadvantage, meaning they are always around people near their age group. The idea for the event started in 2014. The goal is to keep seniors moving and engaged. “Simply to get seniors out of their homes,” said Angad Singh, one of the organizers of the event from the Amrit Sagar Foundation. “You know, like we tend to see that a lot of times that when people tend to get older, they tend to want to preserve their bodies, they want to sit at home. “But we realize as we get better at this, that movement is medicine,” he added. “So the more the seniors move, the more we get them out, the more they get to play, and I think that’s more important in today’s day and age.” Saturday was the ninth seniors’ sports day.
