More than 1,000 kids trick-or-treat early in Hillhurst at event focused on accessibility

The spooky spirit was alive and well in Hillhurst on Saturday as kids trick or treated a couple weeks early in an event focused on accessibility.

A neighbourhood came together over the weekend to make sure everyone could take part in Halloween.

Treat Accessibly hosted their annual Halloween Village on Saturday.

The spooky spirit was alive and well in Hillhurst as kids trick-or-treated a couple weeks early in an event focused on accessibility.

Neighbours set up tables and handed out candy on the street, bringing inclusivity into the holiday.

“And having one of these villages like this shows to both people that have disabilities and those that don’t have disabilities that there can be an inclusive event for all -- and that it’s really simple to do,” said Siena Padulo, co-founder of the Treat Accessibly movement.

“It’s super awesome,” said Aaron Li, whose son has cerebral palsy. “He’s excited, and he just gets to come out and just be able to enjoy what a kid should be able to enjoy on Halloween.”

About 1,500 kids attended the Halloween event.
