Calgarians had the chance to learn about Metis culture this weekend at The Confluence. The event featured voyageur games and fiddlers. There were Metis and Elder talks, which provided the chance for Calgarians to better connect with the Metis culture. There were a number of interactive displays, including the opportunity for Calgarians to explore an authentic trapper’s tent. “It is very important for us to keep our culture alive and our stories alive because we have a lot of people who are just reconnecting to who they are as Metis,” said a Metis Festival spokesperson. “There’s a lot of Metis people that have had to hide who they are. So we have lots of citizens who are just reconnecting (with their cultural roots).” This was the third time the Calgary Nose Hill and Calgary Elbow Metis districts hosted this festival.
