Calgary police have arrested a man who allegedly tried to break into a closed parkade while in a stolen vehicle. Police say officers spotted someone driving a stolen vehicle downtown just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1. “The suspect later attempted to enter a closed parkade located at Fifth Avenue and Third Street S.W., and exited the vehicle, fleeing on foot,” police said in a Friday news release. Police used dogs and a HAWCS helicopter to locate the suspect. It’s alleged the man regularly travelled between Calgary and Edmonton, committing break-and-enters in nearby communities as he did. “The theft of a vehicle is more than a property crime,” said Staff Sgt. Kerry Smith. “In many cases, stolen vehicles are used to facilitate other offences that impact businesses, homeowners and neighbourhoods, creating further risks in our communities.” The accused, a 39-year-old man, is charged with six offences. Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
