An investigation is underway into a fire that broke out Thursday afternoon on the second floor of a residential building on Edmonton Trail N.E. Calgary fire crews responded at 3:05 p.m. to an alarm call at the 4800 block of Edmonton Trail N.E., where they were met by building staff who reported heavy smoke on the second floor, according to fire department public information officer Alex Kwan. Sprinklers were activated, controlling the fire until fire crews could put it out. One person was treated for smoke inhalation but not transported to hospital. The building and adjacent businesses were evacuated as a precaution. Residents were eventually allowed to go back to their units. Crews remained on scene Thursday evening.
