Alberta’s final few Toys “R” Us stores continued to fall this week. “Going out of business” signs have been set up at the Toys “R” Us store in Lethbridge. Located near Park Place Mall, the store was put up for sale this past year. It had a price tag of $15 million. There is currently no information about how many employees will be affected by the closure. The store’s final day in business is also not clear. The Toys “R” Us website lists the store as active with its usual normal hours of operation. CTV News previously reported the final Toys “R” Us store in the Calgary area had shuttered. According to Joel Tatlow, marketing manager at the CrossIron Mills mall, that store’s final day in business was Jan. 16. “Toys ‘R’ Us has operated at the centre for a number of years and is no longer in occupancy,” Tatlow said. There is likewise currently no information about how many employees were affected by that closure. Two stores remain open in Edmonton, according to the Toys “R” Us website. Edmonton’s are the final stores in Alberta. The once-iconic toy retailer is shedding its stores elsewhere in Canada as well. Earlier this week, the Toys “R” Us store at Stone Road Mall in Guelph, Ont., was locked up with a notice of lease termination taped to the window. Mall owner Primaris told CTV News, “All Toys ‘R’ Us locations in our portfolio are now closed.” The Toys “R” Us store in Kitchener—next-nearest to the now-closed Guelph store—is up for sale.
