Calgary police say impaired driving is believed to be a factor in three collisions on Wednesday that all happened within a three-hour span. The first crash happened on southbound Deerfoot Trail between 24 Street and Barlow Trail S.E. at 7 p.m. It involved three vehicles, including one that rolled on its roof. “The driver believed to be responsible was treated for minor injuries and arrested for impaired driving,” police said in a Thursday news release. The second collision happened just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of 88 Avenue and 52 Street N.E. Three vehicles were involved, one vehicle rolled, and one driver was arrested for suspected impaired driving. The third collision happened 20 minutes later at Centre Street North and 56 Avenue N.E. Police say “several” vehicles were involved and a driver who was suspected of driving impaired was taken into custody “As of the end of April 2026, our officers have issued 761 immediate roadside sanctions and laid 32 Criminal Code convictions for impaired driving,” police said. “Impairment is also believed to be a factor in one of the 11 fatal collisions in Calgary so far this year.” Anyone with additional information on any of the incidents is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
