It will be a first for Canadian country star Tenille Townes—a full orchestra performing behind her. “I can’t wait for these Calgary shows. I have this feeling they’re going to be among my favourite musical experiences of my life,” Townes told CTV News. “I really do believe that.” Townes and local producer/arranger Dave Pierce are already working on the arrangements for the two shows with the Calgary Philharmonic on April 23 and 25. The Juno Award winner and ACM New Female Artist of the Year in 2020 spoke with us about some of her hits that will get the full orchestral treatment, including Jersey on the Wall. It was inspired by Towne’s visit to Grand Manan, N.B., where the school’s valedictorian and star basketball player was among five students killed in a crash. “It breaks my heart and it also heals it at the same time when people tell me stories about people in their lives that they lost too soon, that this song makes them think about,” Townes said. “It just feels like we can take a moment and honour them together and stand in our grief at the same time.”
