Highs in the mid-20s for Calgary with a chance of mid-week showers

It was a hot and sunny conclusion to Stampede, but Calgary managed to get through the entire 10-day event with no heat warnings.

Temperatures were above seasonal throughout the weekend, and that trend continued Monday with an abundance of sunshine in Calgary and a high of 27 C.

Elsewhere in Canada, a powerful high-pressure system is bringing lots of heat to parts of Manitoba and western Ontario, with Thunder Bay hitting a high of 39 C on Monday afternoon!

Alberta is largely on the outer edges of this hot high-pressure setup and will likely avoid this current heat dome weather event as it stays southeast of us.

The normal high for Calgary at this point in July is 23 C, and we will see temperatures in the mid-20s for much of the work week.

Clouds will start to move in from the south starting on Tuesday, with showers and thunderstorms possible for the Medicine Hat area by the afternoon and continuing into Wednesday.

Calgary could also see some showers by Wednesday, but the models don’t seem confident that amounts will be substantial—likely just scattered showers throughout the afternoon into the early evening.

There could be the chance for thunderstorms to develop off the foothills by Friday, but again, the models aren’t suggesting anything severe heading our way at this time.
