Heritage Park officially opened for its 61st season Saturday, with a few new attractions and more than 40 new food items. “We’ve got so much happening, from the train being open, the S.S. Moyie is in the water, we’re hoping guests and families of all ages can come explore the park today,” said marketing and communications director Eirin Bernie. In addition to three new original live shows, the park is featuring a powerful new fibre art installation by Metis artist Tracey-Mae Chambers. Crafted with red yarn, the piece offers the opportunity for reflection and conversation around reconciliation and connection. On June 21, Heritage Park will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples’ Day with a day of reflection, celebration and community, featuring a Powwow and campfire chats hosted by the University of Calgary. In July, the popular Music in the Plaza concert series returns and later this summer, the park will launch Resource Ridge, which will explore the dinosaur digs of 1910-17 in an exhibit that offers interactive elements and hands-on discovery zone.
