The Veterans Association Food Bank said Friday that it’s in urgent need of donations. The association said it is experiencing one of the most challenging seasons in its history with an 80 per cent drop in donations heading into the holidays. It attributed the decline to rising costs, fewer food drives and postal disruptions. The association has launched a campaign to bring in donations and said unless things change, hundreds of veterans and their families may go without holiday meals or basic winter necessities this season. “We can help them back on their feet,” said Rory Gamble of the Veterans Association Food Bank, “so it’s not just for today we can help them -- it’s for the rest of the year, so right now, it might look like a food hamper, where people are giving food donations which really helps.” The Veterans Association is also looking for warm clothing and winter essentials, hygiene items, gift cards and monetary donations.
