A little over a year ago, Fabiola Caraballo Quijada was in high school. Now, she’s the star of a touring Broadway production. “I was going to go to college for musical theatre, but I feel like this little twist to my story could not have turned out any better,” Quijada told CTV News. Shortly after graduating from high school in Texas, Quijada won the Jimmy Award, a national honour for high school musicals. That led to her successful audition for the lead role in & Juliet, the Tony-nominated jukebox musical that imagines an alternative, and happier, ending for Shakespeare’s Juliet. The touring production of & Juliet returns to the stage in Calgary on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when Quijada will re-unite with her castmates, all of whom are older than her. “We’ve got some seasoned, seasoned actors and performers on the stage. They’re just incredible. I miss them so much!” Quijada said.
