Hockey parents are being advised to beware of tournament scams. Hockey Alberta says suspicious tournament invitations are currently targeting minor hockey teams. They often mimic official emails and forms very closely, hoping to dupe parents into paying money before they realize it’s not legitimate. Hockey Alberta says you should verify all unexpected invites before sending payment or clicking on any links. “We had a couple of our associations share that there appeared to be some fabricated emails,” said Drew Dixon, Hockey Alberta’s director of membership. “Or instances where the tournaments were asking for additional -- once the registration fee had been paid--expenses that are not traditional to minor hockey tournaments.” You can confirm officially sanctioned events at hockeyalberta.ca/tournaments and reach out directly to verified host contacts.
