The Calgary Humane Society hosted Cocktails for Critters Saturday. It’s expected the gala will raise close to $300,000. It shines a light on some of the society’s protection work, including investigations into cruelty and neglect. Since the Calgary Humane Society receives no government funding, this support from the community is essential to its continued operation. “What this means to Calgary Humane Society, is that we can continue to develop these programs that we’ve been working on that help keep animals in their homes,” said Humane Society executive director Carrie Fritz, “and then be able to care for the animals who do arrive at the shelter that do need our support. And we offer veterinary care, behavioral support, and then adoption and rehoming for these animals.” Cocktails for Critters has been running since 2003.
