The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) is investigating two separate blazes less than an hour apart in Forest Lawn. Crews were called to the first fire, at a single-storey home in the 1500 block of 37 Street S.E., at 4 a.m. Officials say smoke and flames were seen coming from the home, which had been boarded up. “The home is considered vacant but possibly used by people experiencing homelessness. The neighboring home is also vacant and boarded up,” said Alex Kwan, public information officer for the CFD, in a statement. He said crews knocked down the fire and confirmed that no one was inside and no one was injured. That crew found the second fire in a detached double garage around 5 a.m. “Firefighters stretched a high-volume hose line as the fire had spread throughout the yard including a vehicle parked next to the garage. The fire was knocked down,” Kwan said. The flames did not spread to the home, and no one was injured. The cause of both fires is under investigation.
