With their season on the line Tuesday night, the Calgary Canucks defeated the Edmundston Blizzard 8-2 in Centennial Cup action at Max Bell Centre. Jack Plandowski led the Canucks with a hat trick, as they advanced to the Centennial Cup semi-finals. After the Blizzard jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Carl-Anthony Masse, the Canucks replied with a four-goal first period assault, including goals from Nathan Maloney, Bowden Singleton and two from Plandowski. In the second, the Canucks got a goal from Hayden Fechner that was matched by one from the Blizzard by Marco Martin, making it 5-2. In the third, Gavin Schmidt extended the Canuck lead to 6-2. Riley Braco and Plandowski added singles to extend the lead to 8-2. The Canucks outshot the Blizzard 40-32. With the victory, the Canucks finish first in Group B and advance to Saturday’s semi-finals against an opponent yet to be determined.
